Zenith Awards find a voice of innovation

Maria Vamvakinou MP, Federal Member for Calwell and Chair of the House Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Innovation, will be the guest speaker at the Zenith Awards 2008.

Before being elected to the Federal seat of Calwell in 2001, Maria she was a secondary school teacher. She is also a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties and the House Standing Committee on Petitions.

“I am delighted to be elected Chair of a committee so important to sustaining the prosperity of this country,” Ms Vamvakinou said in March, when she was elected Chair of the House Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Innovation.

“This is a role that I intend to throw myself into. I have long been passionate about Australian industry and am delighted to further put this passion into action.”

“Australian industry is crucial to our long term economic future, playing a pivotal role in maintaining Australia’s workforce skills base,” Ms Vamvakinou said.

“There is a growing recognition that innovation, cutting edge technology and a greater emphasis on research and development (R&D) hold the key to the future of Australian manufacturing.”

“The Australian Government is determined to foster a fresh and vibrant culture of innovation, and we have already announced a broad-ranging inquiry into our national innovation system to make it happen,” Ms Vamvakinou said.
