The global 3D printing
industry has continued its explosive growth, according to a leading annual
report.
Wohlers
Report 2015, released this week, found the worldwide industry for 3D printing goods
and services to be worth $US 4.1 billion in 2014, an increase of 35.2 per cent from
2013.
All sectors within the industry
were expansion, and metal additive manufacturing (the report uses “3D printing
and “additive manufacturing” interchangeably) continued its robust growth.
The 3D printing
industry has experienced a compound annual growth rate, according to the
report, of 33.8 per cent over the last three years.
The comprehensive report – which
is developed with 87 service providers, 40 manufacturers, and 78 co-authors in
31 countries has charted the industry’s rapid growth over two decades.
“The first Wohlers Report was published in April 1996,”
said the founder of the Wohlers Associates consultancy, Terry Wohlers, in a
statement.”
“It was 40 pages in length and represented the first-ever
published analysis of the industry worldwide. The AM industry represented a
mere $295 million in 1995.”
Wohlers will return to Australia to give the opening keynote address at the Inside 3D Printing event in Melbourne (held May 26 – 29).
