Executive Director of Sydney University’s engineering think tank The Warren Centre, Dr Nick Cerneaz believes there is a dire need to change the conversations Australians are having today.
He explains it is time for Australian industry and governments to rise above their reliance on mining dollars and aversion to risk.
The Warren Centre is celebrating its 30th anniversary by bringing Australia’s leading minds from industry and science together to collaborate on a vision for Australia’s future.
A key objective of the one-day session on November 8 at the Sydney Convention Centre is to discuss with some of Australia’s best minds about what needs to be done for Australia to stay relevant this century.
The Vision30 event will have participants discussing the possible changes that may occur in key industry sectors in the next 30 years and what they could do with these changes.
Dr Cerneaz said the Vision30 event will have a determinedly macroeconomic focus with technology, industry and innovation, food, and innovation leadership to be covered by one of the highest-calibre program of speakers assembled this year. Keynote speaker Ian Thomas, Boeing Australia and South Pacific President, is expected to continue his rallying cry for Australia’s manufacturing capability.
Speakers confirmed to date include Chris Delaney (CEO of Goodman Fielder); Greg Stone (CTO of Microsoft Australia); Catherine Caruana-McManus (Smarter Cities Executive at IBM); Bruce Grey (CEO of Advanced Manufacturing CRC); Barry Murphy (former president of Caltex Australia); Branko Celler (Chief of ICT at CSIRO); Martin Cole (Chief of Animal, Food & Health Sciences at CSIRO); Hugh Durrant-Whyte (CEO of NICTA); Andy Dong (Future Fellow and Warren Centre Chair for Engineering Innovation at the University of Sydney); James Bradfield Moody (CEO TuShare); John Webster (CEO of Foodbank); Gary Dawson (CEO Australian Food & Grocery Council); Peter Leonard (Partner in charge of communications & media at Gilbert + Tobin); and Bronwyn Evans (CEO of Standards Australia).
