GHD, recently brought together 60 wastewater, water treatment and desalination engineers for a GHD Technical Conference in San Francisco.
The attendees hailed from GHD’s offices in USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
GHD is involved in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services.
“Our Technical Conferences have been a feature of our business for many years. They bring our talented people together to explore leading-edge solutions and to collaborate. This unique investment in our technical capabilities sets us apart from our competitors,” said Russell Board, GHD’s Chairman.
“Despite the challenging economic environment, we see great value in linking our technical leaders to create a global network for the benefit of our clients. It’s a classic case of making the whole much more than the sum of its parts.”
Rich Nagel, General Manager of the West Basin Municipal Water District in California, was the client guest speaker at our Conference Dinner. The challenging drought circumstances in California provided context for many technical discussions.
GHD’s merger partner Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA) was represented by seven participants at the conference. Bob Lannon, manager of CRA’s Buffalo, New York, office, comments, “The conference confirmed that each company brings to the table highly advanced technical solutions for our water clients.”
The conference also saw the GHD Technical Award presented to Dr Kostas Athanasiadis from the Brisbane office.
Reviewing 30 award entries from across GHD’s water business, a judging panel of senior technical leaders chaired by Russell Board voted Kostas’ StormDMT as the outstanding project innovation.
StormDMT is a stormwater treatment device that filters a range of contaminants, with a focus on soluble nutrients and dissolved heavy metals including zinc, copper, nickel, mercury and platinum.
Gerard Noone, Manager of the GHD Business School, oversees the organisation of Technical Conferences, and learning and development initiatives.
“At GHD, our competitive advantage is our people. By supporting the technical and professional development of our people, we deliver quality service to our clients,” he says.
The next GHD Technical Conference is scheduled for August in Sydney, Australia.
