Tait to upgrade communications system for Australia’s largest rail network

Tait Communications’ digital voice and data system has been selected for Queensland Rail, Australia’s largest rail network. Queensland Rail chose Tait’s solution for the digital migration of its radio communications network.

The Tait DMR (digital mobile radio) system will provide important communications infrastructure for Queensland Rail’s day-to-day operations in and around Brisbane city, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the wider Queensland Rail network.

Tait has been commissioned to upgrade the radio communications system across 50 sites, with the scope of work including the supply of a DMR Tier 3 trunked voice and data solution in addition to the design and deployment of the system.

Tait Australia Pty Ltd was selected for the design and implementation of the new digital train network replacement, following a competitive tender process.

Brett Smythe, General Manager for Tait Asia-Pacific explained that the company’s focus on a comprehensive implementation and support plan, incorporating deployment, migration, risk management, change management and project management were all key factors in securing the contract.

Tait products are based on the open standards technology, ensuring Tait digital terminals are compatible with Queensland Rail’s existing analogue system, its existing Zetron consoles and location services data. Engineered specifically to keep employees performing optimally regardless of the conditions, the Tait DMR Tier 3 solution for Queensland Rail is future flexible and cost efficient, reutilising existing assets and reducing the complexity of implementing the new system.

Tait is an established and well respected provider of critical communications solutions to public safety agencies, utilities and transportation agencies including Brisbane Airport Corporation, Air France, London Bus, TriMet, and British Columbia Rail.
