Strategic Energy Resources to step up graphene efforts with new casting facility

Ionic Industries will acquire a graphene casting facility and begin a research project on creating scalable graphene membranes.

In a statement to the ASX from Strategic Energy
Resources (whose subsidiary Graphitech Pty Ltd operates as Ionic Industries),
it was announced that the facility would be used for the project, “Green
Manufacturing of Graphene from Indigenous Natural Graphite and Graphene-based
Nanofiltration Membranes”.

It would be a step towards developing a
scalable, industrial graphene membrane technology, which would have multiple uses in the food and mining industries.

SER announced a collaboration agreement with Monash
University earlier this year, following a three-year arrangement with the
university. The team has been working on the membrane technology since 2012,
and an ARC Linkage grant will begin early next year.

The research team includes Mark Muzzin, CEO of
Ionic Industries, and five researchers from Monash, the CSIRO and University of
Kentucky.
