Southern Cross Electrical win BHP power station contract

Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (SCEE) have won a contract for BHP Iron Ore’s Yarnima power station works.

The contract will see them provide electrical and instrumentation works at the Yarnima power station, near Newman in WA.

The work performed by SCEE on site is valued at approximately $25 million.

SCEE’s managing director Simon High stated the company is “pleased to have been given the opportunity to execute the electrical and instrumentation works at Yarnima and look forward to continuing to develop our relationships with BHP Billiton Iron Ore”.

Yarnima is a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power station that will deliver 190 megawatts to replace supply from the existing Newman Power Station. The capital cost of the project is expected to be US$597 million.

Power supply for the project is slated for this year.
