Siemens will open a new dedicated service centre for repairs and maintenance in the heart of Queensland's coalfields.
The 1,500 square metre service centre is one of only a few Original Equipment Manufacturers’ (OEM) workshops within the vicinity of theBowen, Galilee and Surat Basins, and is aimed at providing local mining operations with access to highly specialised engineering services, equipment, spare parts and technicians.
The centre is equipped with a 50-tonne crane for servicing over-sized equipment, such as total integrated drive systems and mill gearboxes.
Siemens’ service manager, Paul Bulloch, said the decline in commodity prices, increased cost pressures on mining operations and a greater demand for productivity improvements were key drivers behind the company’s investment into this region.
“Maximising productivity and operational efficiency is the only way mining operators can take control of their costs and survive these fluctuating economic times.
“The Central Queensland Service Centre will provide timely responses to our customers’ service needs, reduced down-times, spare parts as well as preventative maintenance strategies to assist in improving productivity and maximising returns on mining equipment.”
Having already provided support for three of Anglo American’s coal mine – Dawson, Lake Lindsay and Moranbah North – Siemens has now also been awarded the contract to provide 27 drive train packages for Anglo American’s newest greenfield project, Grosvenor.
The Rockhampton-based service centre will provide a local hub in which these new and existing drive train packages, essentially the crucial ‘arteries’ moving coal around these mines.
