Weidmuller, has just released its new IES series of Industrial Ethernet switches to supersede its existing range. The new series meets the tasks of monitoring and controlling operational data.
With three ranges to choose from, the series offers a choice of Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet managed switches with various port combinations. Users can select from entry level IES21 Fast Ethernet, IES31 Fast Ethernet with Gigabit Uplink, up to IES41 full Gigabit Ethernet switches. The switches feature Ring redundancy with floating master, latest security features, IGMP snooping and a built in virtual cable tester.
Suitable for use in the factory, automotive process and oil, gas and renewable energy industries, the family meets all current Australian standards.
Equipped with the W-Ring technology, the IES family delivers far more redundancy and greater reliability. W-Ring simplifies network requirements by eliminating master/slave settings in a redundant ring, while providing a netwok reinstatement time of less than 20ms.
The managed Ethernet switches also feature MSTP for additional redundancy. MSTP furnishes the network with spare links that automatically provide backup paths should the active links fail.
The new IES managed switches also have an unequalled and clever, built-in Virtual Cable Tester (VCT). The VCT tests a twisted pair connection status by using Time Domain Reflection methodology. It is capable of identifying the type of fault as well as the distance from the switch port within five seconds.
Plus, the IES family offers greater choice when it comes to Quality of Service. The managed switches can prioritise network traffic using the 802.1p standard, IP TOS as well as DSCP – the most recent standard.
Apart from featuring all the latest security and alarm functions, the managed switches are compatible with SMNP3, Radius and Tacas. They are also suitable for integrating into CISCO secured networks. Smart, sophisticated and for added security, the IES series also has the ability to provide local or remote user/password authentication.
The switches are operational in harsh and demanding environments and have been created to withstand operating temperatures up to 85ºC as well as excessive vibration.
Housed in robust metal casings with no need for fans or case venting, the family is IP40 protected. The compact switches can be DIN rail or wall mounted.
