ABB will acquire oil and gas company Ber-Mac Electrical and Instrumentation Ltd of Calgary, Canada, expanding its presence in the sector and posing stiff competition current players in the area.
Ber-Mac specialises in industrial automation, electrical, instrumentation design, process optimisation, panel fabrication and field services, with a focus on the oil and gas industry.
Ber-Mac has been around since 1980 and earned revenues of $100 million in 2007, primarily due to its power and automation projects in the oil and gas industry.
“The acquisition is perfectly aligned with ABB’s growth initiative to enhance its engineering and
service capabilities, and will also increase our presence in the large oil and gas industry in North
America,” said ABB Process Automation head, Veli—Matti Reinikkala.
“At the same time, this business will complement ABB’s offerings, and benefit from the Group’s established network of global resources.”
The acquisition will add 400 employees to ABB in North America.
