Honeywell will provide the integrated control system for Woodside’s new Pluto liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Western Australia.
The project, based on the Woodside’s Pluto gas field north west of Karratha, is the state’s first new LNG plant in more than 20 years. It is expected to produce 4.3 million tons of LNG per year.
The Pluto LNG Project includes sub-sea wells; an offshore, unmanned wellhead platform; a 180-kilometre trunk line; an onshore LNG plant; and associated infrastructure located near Karratha.
Honeywell will provide its Experion Process Knowledge System R300, as well as advanced process control and operator training systems. Experion will streamline production by controlling all process operations and providing data from subsystems throughout the facility to aid operator decision making. Honeywell will also specify, procure, engineer and integrate the emergency shutdown and fire and gas systems. The integrated system will help mitigate safety risks and improve operational efficiency. Honeywell’s UniSim Operator Training Simulator will be implemented to provide a life-cycle simulation solution.
Honeywell will integrate the entire control system through Experion, including Honeywell’s Field Device Manager and Asset Manager applications to help operators efficiently monitor and diagnose field devices, and Honeywell’s Uniformance PHD data historian for efficient and effective data analysis. Additionally, Honeywell will provide consulting services and applications to assist operators sort and prioritise system alarms, thereby preventing potential incidents and unexpected downtime.
The control system project is scheduled for completion in 2009 and production is expected to commence in late 2010.
