Oz automation outfit cracks global market

Australian automation and robotics company, Machine Automation and Robotics (MAR), has signed a multi-million dollar deal in the United States (US), following news that the company won a coveted Telstra Business Award 2008.

MAR, which was formed in 1987, is set to take Australia’s robotics expertise to global markets following the deal, which anchoring the importance of Australian technology in the worldwide marketplace.

MAR made over $20 million over the past 12 months through its design, build, install and integration of robotics systems for the food, beverage, meat, manufacturing, materials handling and metals industries.

Managing director and founder, Clyde Campbell, said the recent Telstra Business Award reinforced the success of the company both locally and abroad.

The company has also recently signed a US deal to help automate the manufacture of solar thermal reflectors.

“Our success with the Telstra Award is not only a great win for the business, but will help thrust the innovation and development of Australia’s automation and robotics industry into the spotlight,” Campbell said in a press release.

“2008 has been a tremendous year which saw us win a $5 million US contract, despite being pitted against major US robotics competitors and at a time when Robotics orders in the US had dropped by some 23 per cent.”

According to Campbell, MAR will now fast-track its expansion plans into global markets. While the company has enjoyed some well-earned luck with overseas contracts of late, including a contract in China for the automation of paper handling, Campbell says the company’s key focus will continue to be helping Australian manufacturers compete in a global market.

“We have had plans to tap into new global markets, however with the success of our US project we are bringing forward these global expansion plans and intend to have offices in the US, Asia and Europe within the next five years,” Campbell said.

“But first and foremost, we will be focusing on innovation to help local manufacturers compete on the world’s stage through delivery of smart automation of the manufacturing process.”
