NSW government to roll out LED lights

The NSW government has announced that LED lights will be installed in 41 council areas across Sydney, the Hunter and the Central Coast.

State energy minister Chris Hartcher said that trials of 62 lights in eight locations in Sydney had given positive results, and residents preferred them to output of the energy-efficient LEDs.

"The lifespan of LEDs is expected to be more than 20 years, meaning councils will pay a lot less for both maintenance and power," he said in comments reported by News Corp.

"When a standard light on a suburban street fails and cannot be fixed, it will now be replaced with a super-efficient LED."
