Mineral Engineering Technical Services (METS) has appointed Peter Smith and Dr Bob van Emden to their senior team.
Peter has a Bachelor of Science (Mineral Science and Extractive Metallurgy), and a Graduate Diploma in Education, and has joined as a Senior Metallurgist at METS. Peter’s early career was as Plant Metallurgist in gold processing. Peter then spent several years in Hobart involved in the construction, commissioning and operation of a waste re-treatment facility converting manganese dioxide anode scrubber scale from the Pasminco Zinc Smelter to manganese sulphate via sulphur doxide leach, purification and spray drying. He has a Graduate Diploma in education and taught science for several years before returning to the mining industry in a hands-on senior role at Monarch’s Davyhurst gold operations.
Bob has more than 10 years of experience as a consultant to mineral processing and chemical refining industries in Australia, and joins METS in the role of Senior Process Chemist. He has specific expertise in process improvement and business development for the mineral sands and alumina industries. Bob has a Bachelor of Science with honours and a Doctor of Philosophy in the Solid State Chemistry / Mineralogy of heavy mineral sands from the University of Western Australia.
METS looks forward to the contribution each will make to the training and development outcomes of their graduate and trainee staff, and the ongoing success of their client’s projects.
