Meet the game changers at Convention 2014

The future of Australia’s manufacturing sector, leadership and mastering complex projects are just some of the big issues to be debated when thousands of engineers of all disciplines descend upon Melbourne for Convention 2014  – the largest engineering event ever held in the Southern Hemisphere.

Organised by peak professional body, Engineers Australia, Convention 2014 (Nov 24 – 28) has attracted the superstars of the engineering and science world.

Keynote speakers include retired NASA Astronauts, Colonel Chris Hadfield and Dr Andrew Thomas, International Space Station Operator and Operations Engineer, Andrea Boyd and Google’s Head Engineer Alan Noble.

Engineers Australia CEO Stephen Durkin said the line-up of speakers at Convention 2014 is the equivalent of the ultimate TEDx for engineers and business leaders.

“Delegates attending Convention 2014 will hear from the world’s leading thinkers in science, technology, engineering and math.  People who are at the top of their profession, inspiring and challenging the way we live, work and interact,” Mr Durkin said.

Convention 2014 is made up of six conferences covering defence, applied mechanics, climate change, complex projects, telecommunications and leadership.

The event will deliver a range of technical conferences and seminars, more than a dozen workshops, symposiums and forums and site tours.

The three-day leadership event is a rare opportunity for engineers and senior business executives to hear leaders share the necessary skills and qualities to progress into senior management.

Keynotes for Leadership include Alan Noble, Head of Engineering for Google Australia & New Zealand, Scott Anthony, Managing Partner, Innosight and 2011 Tour de France winner Cadel Evans.

Individual sessions within the leadership conference will be facilitated by well know media personalities Adam Spencer, Alan Kohler and Ita Buttrose.

Explore the experiences of leaders from some of Australia’s iconic companies and share their hard won lessons.  This session will provide powerful insights into how these leaders have instilled resilience and created sustainable organisations.

Engineers Australia CEO Stephen Durkin said Convention 2014 is more than just an engineering event – it’s an opportunity to hear from some of the world’s most respected thought leaders on leadership and innovation.

“Engineering has such a wide impact on society and that is reflected in the range of speakers at the event. The program includes keynote addresses from astronauts, politicians, humanitarians, scientists and leading engineers from Google, Siemens and BAE Systems.”
