A new
advanced manufacturing hub concerned with sports will be announced on
Wednesday.
The
Australian Financial Review reports that the Sports Advanced Manufacturing Hub
will be a collaboration between META – previously known as the Manufacturing Precinct and announced by the former federal government last year – and the
Australian Sports Technology Network.
The hub
aims include assisting commercialisation, collaboration between companies, and
increasing export opportunities. The global sports technology market is said to
be worth $300 billion.
“What is exciting is our members will
have access to some of the great manufacturers out there,” the Australian
Sports Technologies Network chairman James Demetriou told the AFR.
“You might, for example, have a sports
company that has come up with some new protective clothing or equipment and
perhaps a manufacturer working in the defence sector could do that with them.”
