Jumbo Vision to build technical rooms for Wheatstone project

Jumbo Vision International (JVI) has been awarded two projects for Chevron’s $29 billion Wheatstone natural gas project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

Established in 1991 in Western Australia, JVI is an Australian-owned and operated company specialising in the design and integration of physical and audio-visual aspects of the control room space.

In partnership with industrial automation and control supplier Yokogawa Australia, JVI will be responsible for the installation of control room infrastructure in two areas: the upstream gas platform, where gas is brought to the surface offshore, and the downstream gas processing plant.

Both sites will feature custom-made Evans control consoles. Based in Canada, Evans Consoles provide technical furniture for a variety of commercial and government bodies, from air traffic control to emergency response and financial trading floors.

As their Australian representative, Jumbo Vision works closely with Evans Consoles in the design and delivery phases, bringing their own expertise in areas such as audio visual components, wall management systems and cabling for a fully integrated system.

JVI General Manager Lena Kimenkowski said, “Jumbo Vision is extremely proud to have worked closely with Yokogawa to specify and supply Evans Consoles for both facets of this world-leading project.”

Capabilities delivered by JVI for Wheatstone include the actual control room design, and as part of the next phase, the integration of turnkey solutions for the entire control room, which includes overview screens and wall management systems.

Evans’ products have been used by JVI in a number of projects in Australia and overseas, including a recent contract to supply and install control room furniture for South Australian electricity provider SA Power Networks (formerly ETSA Utilities).

“The Wheatstone wins help further validate the extraordinary level of service capability and engineering  talent that can be found here,” Kimenkowski said, “proving that there is no need to look overseas for such world-class expertise – it already exists right here in Australia.”

As a world first, their new 1:1 CAD service was utilised for the upstream project, which saved significantly on design time.

Local WA businesses are already benefitting from what is set to be one of the largest mining projects in Australia to date, with Chevron predicting up to 6,500 jobs created during peak construction.

Along with the economic benefits, the increased LNG exports are expected to have significant impact in helping the world move towards a less carbon-intensive future.
