Supported by vendors, RMIT TAFE will offer cross training, apprenticeship and diploma courses in Instrumentation in 2008 and is currently seeking expressions of interest.
RMIT has recently reorganised its Electrotechnology Trade Division with new management, dedicated teaching staff and administrative support team. Workshops have been upgraded and are continuing to be improved. The goal is to assist both employers and students alike, and RMIT is committed to providing world class teaching and
learning to students, supporting industry and employers with dedicated administrative support and procedures.
The Instrumentation Department has entered into a series of strategic alliances with local and international vendors such as Endress+Hauser, Rockwell, Siemens, Hawk Measurement Systems, Emerson Process Management, Floyd Instruments and Pyrosales. The alliances facilitate the provision of training resources and technical support, with hardware, technical literature and automation products at heavily discounted educational prices.
The facilities and equipment allow the team of experienced, professional instructors to deliver training that is relevent, up to date and of the highest quality.
Instrumentation Programs are responding to industry demands for skilled tradespeople who are “job ready”. Programs cater to a diverse range of skill requirements across many industry sectors such as:
*Pulp and Paper
*Oil and Gas
*Pharmaceuticals
*Water Industry
*Petro-Chemical
*Manufacturing
*Food Industry
*Mineral Processing
*Plastics
*Calibration & Service
*Construction *BioTech
The Certificate III – Instrumentation Program provides apprentices with the fundamental knowledge and essential skills to install, maintain and commission process control instrumentation.
The Certificate IV – Instrumentation Program extends that learning to include advanced control concepts, complex control systems and programming skills with PLCs, SCADA and control interfaces.
The Certificate IV “Dual Trade” Program is a five year apprenticeship that combines a Certificate IV Instrumentation with a Systems Electrician qualification. Graduates are fully licenced technicians.
A two year “cross training” Program is also available to “upskill” Electricians to a Certificate IV Instrumentation.
