Honeywell Process Solutions has been commissioned to upgrade process
control and alarm management systems at the Molikpaq platform on the Sakhalin
shelf in Russia to improve safety, reliability and operational efficiency.
Owned by Sakhalin Energy Investment Co. Ltd., the 15-year-old Molikpaq
platform produces 48,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
According to Frank Whitsura, vice president, Honeywell Process Solutions,
offshore production presents a number of risks to workers and the environment in
addition to impacting process efficiency. Such an environment demands systems
that meet the highest reliability, safety and durability standards.
Honeywell’s innovative solutions are designed to meet the demands
arising out of operating in harsh environmental conditions while helping the
client improve their operational and cost efficiencies.
Installed northeast of Sakhalin, 16km offshore at a depth of 30 metres,
the Molikpaq platform is exposed to extreme temperatures, even as cold as 70
degrees below zero Fahrenheit.
As part of the process control improvements at the platform, Honeywell
will implement the latest version of its Experion Process Knowledge System
(PKS), which will be extended by the new C300 controller including Foundation
Fieldbus license. The distributed control system will improve efficiency and
profitability, reduce total cost of ownership and help the facility achieve
optimum oil production by enabling unified access to process control,
production management and asset management.
Honeywell will also install its DynAMo Alarm Suite, which leverages more
than 20 years of alarm management experience in the process industry, and helps
users reduce overall alarm count by as much as 80 percent, identify maintenance
issues, and increase visibility of critical alarms that require urgent
attention.
