Honeywell is the first process automation vendor to receive EDSA certification by exida

Honeywell’s Safety Manager solution has been awarded ISASecure Embedded Device Security Assurance (EDSA) certification by exida, the organisation that conducted the assessment.

Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) is the first process automation vendor in the industry to get this certification which recognises the integrity of both the embedded Safety Manager device and its development lifecycle, and follows testing against communication robustness, functional security and software development security.

Safety Manager delivers safety assurance for operators who oversee industrial processes. The solution helps lower the cost of safety and improves performance by reducing the risk of incidents, maximising production uptime, reducing the cost of compliance and providing productivity tools that help manage safety in industrial plants.

HPS was presented with the award at its annual Users Group Americas conference by Bill Goble, principal partner of exida, who said, “Control system cyber security has learned from functional safety that the design process is critical for a strong foundation. Honeywell’s Safety Manager excelled in our evaluation and I’m impressed by the serious response Honeywell has made to today’s cyber security threats.”

“Cyber security is one of our strategic cornerstones and it’s an integral part of our product development process," said Erik de Groot, marketing manager, Safety Management Systems, Honeywell Process Solutions. "ISASecure EDSA certification gives our customers – and their procurement teams – that extra reassurance that Safety Manager can deliver on its promises.”

Founded in 2007, the ISA Security Compliance Institute (ISCI) provides assurance for the cyber security of industrial automation control systems, and its certification specifications are established in collaboration with industry, trade associations, consumers, academia, government and regulatory agencies. Honeywell is a founding member of the ISCI.
