Honda to strengthen research and development of intelligent technologies

Honda R&D, a research and development subsidiary of Honda, has announced plans to further strengthen its research and development of intelligent technologies and as a result, will establish Honda R&D Innovation Lab Tokyo later this year in Akasaka, Tokyo. According to the company, this new operation will serve as a venue for “co-creation”, where Honda will seek to collaborate with external experts and other research institutes.

This follows the establishment of the Honda Research Institute (HRI) in 2003, created to evolve its intelligent research, which explores new fields beyond mechanical engineering, including brain research and visual/aural recognition. The company also previously established a satellite operation in Silicon Valley, which has been collaborating with the HRI and making progress in areas such as the discovery of technologies among local start-up companies.
