The decision of the Gorgon Joint Venture Partners to invest in the Gorgon LNG project in Western Australia will deliver a “major economic boost for Australia”, according to the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA).
APPEA chief executive, Belinda Robinson, this week congratulated the Gorgon Joint Venture Partners following the announcement of a $43 billion Gorgon LNG project investment.
“The Gorgon LNG project is a major step towards Australia becoming the Asia Pacific leader in LNG and lifting LNG to a top three export for Australia, that’s good new for our economy and the environment,” said Robinson in a press statement.
“The decision of the Gorgon Joint Venture Partners to invest in the Gorgon project will deliver a major economic boost for Australia, create thousands of jobs and can significantly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.
“The immediate economic boost of this project cannot be underestimated, in construction phase it will directly create up to 6,000 jobs and support many, many more for Australian companies and Western Australia’s local businesses.”
Once construction is complete the Gorgon project will not produce natural gas for export as LNG, and will also increase domestic gas supply by more than 30 per cent in Western Australia, APPEA predicts.
