Forge Group has been awarded the EPCM contract to develop BHP Billiton's Yarnmina power station in the Pilbara.
It received the $105 million Notice of Award from WorleyParsons yesterday.
BHP gave the go ahead for the combined cycle gas turbine power station late last year.
Yarnima Power Station will power our existing operations and provide a platform for further mine development. By employing state of the art technology, this power station will also increase our carbon efficiency and promote long term energy sustainability," BHP iron ore president Ian Ashby said at the time.
The plant has also been configured to be dual fuel, allowing it to run off diesel back up in the case of gas interruptions.
Forge CEO David Simpson stated that this award strengthens its order books, explaining that "the Yarnmina project entails the delivery of a combined cycle gas turbine power station comprising three gas turbines, three heat recovery steam generators, and two steam turbines with auxiliary equipment.
"The project will be fully integrated with CTEC (Forge's wholly owned subsidiary) managing delivery whilst utilising the services of our construction subsidiary Cimeco," Simpson added.
This is the second major project for CTECT, after it was awarded a $280 million contract for a CCGT power station at Cape Lambert in the Pilbara.
The Yarnmina power station will provide 190 MW for the expansion of BHP's Jimblebar iron ore mine, and will replace the existing Newman power station.
Work has already begun on the project, and will be completed in the first half of 2014.
