FLIR Systems Australia announces the release of their latest thermal imaging core, Muon designed specifically for volume OEMs capable of integrating uncooled FPAs into their own camera solutions. Muon is the latest thermal core supplied by the FLIR OEM group.
By offering a thermal subassembly that generates calibrated CMOS video out using industry-standard interfaces, FLIR has greatly simplified the OEM process. OEMs are no longer required to develop their own elaborate factory calibration equipment or processes since Muon is calibrated for TEC-less operation.
Muon is a thermal ‘engine’ developed to operate on standard imaging device power and communication protocols.
Based on FLIR’s 17µ pitch Vandium Oxide (VOx) 640×512 or 336×256 FPAs, Muon offers frame rates of 9Hz and up to 60Hz. Optimised for size, weight and power (SWaP), Muon has a form factor of 22mm x 22mm x 6mm, a mass of less than 5 grams, and uses less than 300mW of power depending on the configuration.
Muon is the latest milestone from the FLIR OEM group, which has established a reputation as a merchant supplier of thermal cores to an increasingly expanding market. Having introduced the industry’s first small microbolometer camera (the Alpha) in 1999, this group has since launched five industry-leading successor products – Omega, Photon, Tau, Quark and Lepton.
FLIR GM of OEM and Emerging Markets Bill Terre explains that Muon enables OEM manufacturers to use their own image processing, packaging and optical technologies, and represents FLIR’s ongoing leadership in developing OEM technologies that give customers greater flexibility, while reducing upfront manufacturing costs.
