Clariant Mining will spend $3.5 million to upgrade its Australian chemical plant.
According to the company it is planning to increase the production of PIBSA emulsifiers through the expansion of its plant in Victoria.
The emulsifiers are used in the manufacture of explosives.
It stated that "the $3.5 million investment will allow Clariant Mining to better support its customer base in the Southern Hemisphere and will support the continued growth of the company in the Asian region".
The upgrade to the plant will add to the company's existing PIBSA production capacity based in Spain.
The upgrade is scheduled for completion later this year.
"Clariant is committed to improving its supply chain for customers in the Asian region and across the globe, and this new investment will allow for dynamic growth in the Southern Hemisphere," Andrew Forward, the global business development manager of explosives, said.
