Ergon Energy and Energex take on 100 apprentices in Queensland

Almost 100 jobs have been made available for electricity industry professionals with Queensland’s publicly-owned electricity distributors Ergon Energy and Energex.

State Energy Minister Anthony Lynham said advertising had started to recruit 95 apprentices statewide from Thursday Island in the Torres Strait to Southport on the Gold Coast and west to Mount Isa.

“These are golden opportunities to learn, earn and make a real difference while training and working on one of the world’s largest electricity networks,” Lynham said.

“These aren’t just jobs – they’re some of the most sought-after trade career launchpads in Queensland.

“Many apprenticeships are secured by local people, meaning that they can develop their skills while remaining in the community with their family and friends.”

Apprenticeships are available across a range of field and substation disciplines, including electricians, distribution and transmission linespersons, communications technicians and mechanical fitters.

Energex will have 23 new apprentices starting in the greater Brisbane area, the Gold and Sunshine coasts, and rural and regional communities like Boonah and Caboolture.

Ergon’s 72 apprenticeships span Thursday Island and the Gulf, along the coast, west to the Isa and south to the Granite Belt.
