Australian listed IT Services Company Empired Limited has been
contracted by global mining leader Rio Tinto to provide application managed
services for their mining operations. The contract, including options, will
have a total term of 5 years and an estimated value of $20m.
Empired will be responsible for providing application support and
project services for over 170 unique applications, spanning a number of
technologies including Legacy Platforms, Oracle, Microsoft .Net, Microsoft
SharePoint and Microsoft CRM. These applications are largely technical
systems used in the management of field operations spanning mining, processing,
rail and port facilities.
Empired’s Mr Baskerville commented that they are delighted to be trusted
by an organisation as prestigious as Rio Tinto to manage applications critical
to the efficient operation of one of the world’s largest mining
operations. He observed that the contract spoke volumes about the quality
of services currently being provided by Empired to Rio Tinto under the TST
program.
Empired’s extended Microsoft capability gained through the acquisitions
of OBS, eSavvy and Intergen will be leveraged to provide a seamless and
cohesive solution to Rio Tinto. Mr Baskerville explained that the acquisitions were
pivotal to Empired’s strategy with the latest contract vindicating the
company’s strategy to leverage the broader capability to win large multi-year
contracts.
Empired’s newest contract with Rio Tinto quickly
follows the recent announcements of a Managed Services contract with Toyota and
a $12m contract with Ministry for Primary Industries in New Zealand. Empired
continues to pursue a strong pipeline of large strategic contracts and is
confident of securing additional business in the near term.
