Emerson sets up new R&D facility in Nanjing for flow metering and measurement tech

Emerson Process Management has invested
in a new research and development facility within their Asia Flow Technology Center in Nanjing.

Designed to expand the capabilities of the Asia Flow Technology Center,
the new R&D facility will focus on design, development and testing of new flow
metering and measurement technologies to perform in tough and challenging
engineering applications in the process industry.

Emerson has so far made a total investment of more than US$70 million in
the Asia Flow Technology Center in Nanjing since 2009.

The new R&D facility will support sensor and electronics design,
multi-fluid application testing, environmental testing and analysis, as well as
modelling capabilities for Micro Motion Coriolis flow and density meters and
Rosemount vortex and magnetic flow meters. The new capabilities will expand the
scope of the Nanjing centre, which already operates as the Asian regional
production, distribution and ISO17025 accredited calibration lab for Emerson’s
leading flow metering and measurement technologies.

Neal Ingram, president, Emerson Process Management, precision flow
measurement explains that the expansion allows their design engineers to share
the same facility with marketing, manufacturing and supply chain resources,
significantly accelerating Emerson’s ability to meet the demands of their customers
in Asia.

The engineering and development department in Nanjing has made
significant achievements in the past three years, resulting in 32 patents in
China and four global invention patent provisions. New products have also been launched
including a Chinese display transmitter for Micro Motion Coriolis flow meters
and the Rosemount 8750W magnetic flow meters designed for utility applications.

The Asia Flow Technology Center serves customers in the oil and gas,
refining, petrochemicals, marine, life sciences, food, beverage, metals,
mining, and pulp and paper industries.

The Asia Flow Technology Center is part of Emerson’s global investment
in flow measurement technology facilities and services, which includes
facilities in the U.S., Brazil, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, the
UAE, Japan, Singapore and Australia.
