METS Director/ Principal Consulting Engineer Damian Connelly has recently been granted fellow status with the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).
The AusIMM guidelines state that this is the most senior level of professional membership. Applicants generally must have a relevant tertiary degree and at least ten years relevant industry experience since graduation.
It is also a requirement that applicants for the grade of Fellow must have occupied a position of major responsibility for at least five of those years. Applications for admission or transfer to Fellow must be sponsored by either three Fellows or two Fellows and one Member of The AusIMM.
Connelly has been a member of the institute for over 40 years and was recognised as a Chartered Professional (Metallurgy) in 2000.
“The AusIMM has been an excellent professional development platform for metallurgists like me and has been a continual source of technical information, networking opportunities and acted as a spokesperson for my profession,” Connelly said.
The benefits of being a Fellow extend to being recognised by the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) as a competent person under the NI 43-101 regulation.
The NI 43-101 which is the national instrument for the Standard of Disclosure for Mineral Projects within Canada (equivalent to the JORC code in Australia), recently upgraded the requirement for competent persons from Member to Fellow of the AusIMM.
The NI 43-101 has been developed to ensure that information published to shareholders and investors is honest, reliable and credible.
Whilst Connelly and other METS personnel are equally qualified to report to the TSX through their respective membership of several other international industry groups and Chartered Professional status with the AusIMM.
However, this appointment of Connelly to Fellow provides further reassurance to METS international client base of the company’s ability to meet even the strictest international financial market reporting requirements.
