Daimler selects Siemens NX CAD software for vehicle development

Daimler has selected Siemens’ NX CAD software as its new platform for worldwide car and truck development.

Starting in 2012, Daimler will integrate work from over 20 development centres and major suppliers on a single product development platform.

The decision to use NX CAD software completes Daimler’s implementation of Teamcenter, which is Siemens’ product data management backbone. It will integrate the manufacturer’s entire product creation process, from design through production planning down to managing production machines.

Daimler will use the backbone and software to establish digital collaboration from initial concept design, through simulation during design, down to proof of concept of design solutions.

According to the companies, the consolidated information and data pool will facilitate new vehicle development. By introducing parallel processes in development, design, production planning nad production, the value chain will be further optimised.

Siemens says its software and platforms are well suited for modern vehicle design, which requires an increasing integration of mechanical, electrical and electronic components.

Daimler has worked with Siemens’ Teamcenter software for collaborative product data management since the mid 90s.
