Yokogawa has been awarded the contract to replace the control system in the Northwest Sanderling, a vessel used to ship liquefied natural gas from WA’s North West Shelf to Japan and other Asian countries.
Under the contract, Yokogawa will supply the CENTUM VP Integrated Production Control System to monitor and control the LNG cargo, ship turbines and ship ballast, as well as the ProSafe-RS safety system for boiler, LNG and ship quarters safety management.
The scope of work includes engineering, manufacturing, installation and commissioning services, with Yokogawa equipment replacing an existing ageing system.
The Northwest Sanderling will be in dry dock in Singapore in June 2009. Yokogawa engineers, working in a joint venture with Total Automation, will be involved in the project there and will also monitor the sea trials. Once the vessel is back in service, Yokogawa Australia’s Perth-based team will support the system throughout its operational life.
The Northwest Sanderling is the oldest of nine tankers operated by NWSS, a Perth-based company jointly owned by Woodside, BP, BHP Billiton, Shell, MIMI and Chevron.
