Comtest Laboratories has added the ‘AS/NZS 3100 – Approval and test specification – General requirements for electrical equipment accreditation’ to its portfolio of industrial safety equipment standards.
According to Comtest, the company is already accredited for AS/NZS 60335.1 and is able to produce NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia) endorsed reports for products which do not have an appropriate part 2 for AS/NZS 60335.
However, it has recently been recognised that with changes in technology over the past years AS/NZS 60335 is not always the most appropriate safety standard, according to Comtest.
Devices which were considered ‘IT’ in the past and could have been covered by AS/NZS 60950.1 have evolved and AS/NZS 60950.1 is also not the most appropriate standard, the company says.
Comtest has been testing products to AS/NZS 3100 for a number of years but the technology changes have forced some of the newer types of equipment to also need an Electrical Authority Approval, Comtest says.
This approval requires the test report to be endorsed, so Comtest has acquired NATA accreditation for this standard.
