The New South Wales Government could be forced to source goods and services including cars, trains and some construction products from local manufacturers over Chinese imports in a bid to protect local jobs.
Today’s NSW budget could force $4 billion of stationary, uniforms, cars and building goods to be sourced locally for Government use, banning Chinese imports and giving preference to locally-made companies, the Daily Telegraph reported.
The Daily Telegraph said yesterday that the news could put the NSW Government ad odds with the Rudd Government which has made bids to strengthen its ties with China.
The paper said that the deal would include all goods and services — up to $4 billion — not included in existing Free Trade agreements.
