Belden Australia announces the release of a redesigned version of its Layer
3 modular gigabit switches to suit extreme environment applications. The new Hirschmann
modular switches enable easier installation, greater space savings and higher
network availability.
The new MSP30-X switch not only retains the modular and flexible design
of its predecessors, but also ensures cost and space savings for users with its
ability to perform in harsh environments. Featuring a combination of Layer 3
features, including time synchronisation for time-critical data and
wall-mounting capabilities, the Hirschmann switch brings new advantages to the
industrial market by keeping networks up and running at all times.
Product Manager Vinod Rana explains that the gigabit switch’s ability to
function in harsh operating areas is a first for modular switches such as those
in Hirschmann’s MSP portfolio. Observing that Ethernet devices previously were
placed in the control room, with only fixed, configured products used in the
operations area, he adds that customers can now have both modularity and
flexibility in their networking products, with the ability to place them in
harsh operations areas.
Approved by global GL standards for Environmental Category D, the
MSP30-X is ideal for engineers, integrators, machine builders and plant
operators in the transportation, machine building, power transmission and
distribution, oil and gas, mining, wind power, and other hazardous industries.
Key features of the Hirschmann MSP30-X modular gigabit switches include
Precision Time Protocol version 2 for real-time data; Layer 3 routing
capabilities for network extensions; operating temperature range from -40°C to
+70°C, and up to 100 percent relative humidity; multiple security features ensuring
maximum network availability; additional brackets for mounting of modules on
the main device body; and Ethernet cables that can be tightly screwed onto the
module using M12 connectors.
