AVEVA has formed an alliance with Microsoft to further the development of its ‘Future of Plant Design’ initiative.
New funding and technical resources will accelerate the delivery of a tablet application supporting the ‘Future of Plant Design’ solutions announced earlier this year by AVEVA.
Built on Windows Azure technology, the mobile tablet application will operate on Windows 8 devices and provide interactive access to AVEVA 3D design models used by the process plant, power and marine industries.
“The relationship with Microsoft enables us to deliver a solution that embraces Microsoft’s cloud computing vision and which will give our customers even greater control and visibility of their design model, said Dave Wheeldon, CTO and Head of Engineering & Design Systems at AVEVA..
"This technology will help improve design productivity, allow more informed decisions and deliver fast and high-quality projects. As part of this activity, we will be working with our customers to identify mobile capabilities to add maximum value to their business.”
Kim Akers, general manager, Developer and Platform Evangelism, at Microsoft added, “The development activity at AVEVA clearly demonstrates the application of Windows 8 and Windows Azure technology in complex industrial engineering environments. We are delighted to support AVEVA in bringing these innovative products to market.”
This alliance will provide the platform for developing the mobile element of AVEVA’s vision for ’Plant Design for Lean Construction’. Additionally, this level of collaboration allows AVEVA access to the knowledge within Microsoft to investigate and research a path to cloud offerings via the Windows Azure platform.
