Australian IoT jobs on the rise

Recent data released by job search engine, Indeed, has shown that job searches related to to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR) and Internet of Things (IoT) have tripled in the past year. According to the data, searches using these terms were 276 per cent higher in March 2016 than in March 2015, and 376 per cent higher in April 2016 than in April 2015.

As well as increased interest from job seekers, there are also more employers posting jobs using these terms, according to Chris McDonald, Indeed’s Australia and New Zealand managing director.

“As companies look towards key IoT disciplines to move their businesses forward, the demand for organisations to hire people with those skill sets is increasing as well,” said McDonald in a comment to nextmedia.

He added that he expects to see growth in the data component of IoT, as well as hardware engineering and specialist AI expertise.

This comes almost a week after the addition of 150 new IoT-related jobs in Victoria when IoT hardware and software firm Freestyle Technology announced a new Research and Development Centre for Mount Waverley.
