$75 million apprenticeship facility opened in Sydney

A $75 million, purposed-built training centre has just been opened in Sydney. The Ausgrid Learning Centre at Silverwater claims to combine the best of industry training with the best of sustainable design; with the building achieving a 6 Star Green Star environmental rating.

The Centre, funded under the Australian Government’s Education Investment Fund (EIF), will enable around 400 students to be trained in an area of critical skill shortage within the electricity supply industry.

The Centre features a range of purpose built training facilities including a pole yard for heights training, a substation simulator and electric vehicle technologies.

The new building also includes an energy efficiency centre with interactive education facilities to educate builders, students and the general public about the benefits of green building.

The Federal Government contributed $25 million towards the new Learning Centre under the Education Investment Fund.
