2014 Women in Industry Awards – nominations extended

You now have until May 1 to nominate women doing great work in your company.

Nominations for the 2014 Women in Industry Awards have been extended so busy engineering firms have more time to help celebrate the women working in their business.

The awards aim to recognise and reward the achievements of women working in the industrial sectors, and aims to raise the profile of women within industry, as well as promote excellence.

PACE has teamed up with Australian Mining and Manufacturers’ Monthly to acknowledge women who have achieved success through their invaluable leadership, innovation and commitment to their industries.

Women represent just 11.2 per cent of the engineering labour workforce and National President of Engineers Australia, Dr Marlene Kanga, said more needs to be done to encourage students to take up careers in engineering.

“Many companies are beginning to recognise that diversity is an opportunity and can be a competitive advantage,” Kanga said.

“This is probably the best way that change can be achieved.”

Editor-in-chief of Cirrus Media’s industrial publications, Cole Latimer, said the awards program was important in recognising the contributions being made to the changing face of industry.

“Though female participation has risen across all industrial sectors in Australia, companies are still focusing on more innovative attraction and retention strategies to foster this growing talent and support young women working in the sector,” he said.
